High potential and gifted education (HPGE)

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At Bossley Park Public School, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive in various domains.

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Unlocking Potential, Developing Talent, Inspiring Excellence

At Bossley Park Public School, we believe every student has the capacity to grow, contribute, and achieve beyond expectations. Guided by the NSW Department of Education’s High Potential & Gifted Education (HPGE) framework, we offer deliberately designed opportunities across four domains of potential: physical, social-emotional, creative, and cognitive.

Physical Domain

We encourage students to explore and extend their natural physical abilities through fully funded programs, including:

  • Accelerated Student Athlete Program – Stage 3 Talented Football Program in conjunction with coaching staff from Bossley Park High School
  • Athletics coaching
  • Gymnastics sessions
  • Inter-school sport opportunities - PSSA Summer and Winter Gala Days
  • The Premier's Sporting Challenge (PSC) promotes whole-school participation in physical activity with leadership pathways and professional learning

These initiatives challenge students to build physical skills, resilience, and teamwork, while celebrating achievement in sport and movement.

Social-Emotional Domain

Leadership, self-management, collaboration, and emotional awareness are vital skills. Our social-emotional development includes:

  • Student-led leadership roles (Student Representative Council, peer mentoring, BEAT attendance team leaders
  • Student-facilitated social-emotional groups promoting wellbeing and peer connection, including peer support program and Lego Club
  • Real-world leadership through community partnerships
  • Environment and Gardening Club, where students grow, cook, and/or sell produce to the community

This domain supports students to thrive academically and socially, fostering confidence and agency.

Creative Domain

We value imagination and expressive talent through programs such as:

  • Fully funded dance programs including performance opportunities
  • A comprehensive visual arts curriculum
  • Photography Club
  • Choir (Years 2-6)
  • Production Team
  • Assyrian Dance Group

These pathways enable students to translate creativity into celebrated achievements, including success in external competitions.

Cognitive Domain

For students with advanced intellectual potential, we offer enrichment fostering inquiry, innovation, and technological fluency:

  • High Potential Literacy Groups (Stage 2 and 3)
  • The Premier's Spelling Bee promotes vocabulary development and attention to detail in competitive settings
